Jean M. (Fitzpatrick), Wright, 56, of Needham, died Thursday, February 8, at Beth Israel Medical Center due to complications arising from Multiple Sclerosis. Jean was the last to join a boisterous family of six children raised in Amherst, Massachusetts. She was the daughter of the late Robert A. Fitzpatrick, a Professor at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst, and Mary (Callahan) Fitzpatrick, a mathematics teacher at Amherst Regional High School. Jean attended Amherst local schools and graduated from Amherst Regional High School in 1979. She graduated from Boston College in 1983 with a B.A. in Communications. After college, she began a career in banking and financial services at Bank of New England in Boston. In 1989, Jean married Jeffrey J. Wright, a Partner at Ernst & Young LLP and a graduate of Boston College, Class of 1975. Jean committed herself to her two children, Brigid Eagan, who arrived in 1991, and Robert (Bobby) Fitzpatrick, who followed in 1994. Devoted to her family, Jean took an active interest in her children's education, and volunteered at their many school activities until her increasing disability limited her capacity to participate. Following in her parents' footsteps, Brigid graduated Boston College in 2014, and is now in her second year at Suffolk University Law School; Robert broke with tradition and attended Syracuse University in New York. Known for her razor-sharp intellect, quicksilver wit, mordant sense of humor, as well as her flair for fashion and her beauty, Jean was an avid reader, a gourmet cook, a superb seamstress, a do-it-yourself crafter, as well as the family home's construction supervisor and plumber, when necessary. Jean's couragous 19-year battle with a debilitating illness could not diminish her unending love for Brigid and Bobby, who were the center and true purpose in her too short life. She inspired everyone who knew and loved her, including her caregiver Betsy Welz, and the Wright family's loyal friend Ann Brady. Jean is survived by Jeffrey, her devoted husband of twenty-nine years, and her two children, Brigid and Robert; her mother, Mary Fitzpatrick, her sisters, Maureen, Ellen, Betsy, and Mary, her brother Robert and sister-in-law Evie; her niece Ryan Deane; her sister-in-law Mary Kay Watts and her husband, James; her sister-in-law Tricia Myers and her husband, Thomas; her brother-in law Gerald Wright and his
wife, Janet; her nieces Jennifer Myers, Lindsey Johnson, and Katherine Watts; and her nephews Michael and Andrew Watts.
