Edward Panella, 93 of Needham, formerly of Newton died peacefully surrounded by his family on April 1, 2015. Beloved husband of Virginia Panella. Loving Father of Douglas Panella and his wife Trisha, his daughter Jeanne Bolio and her late husband Kevin Bolio. Grandfather to Michael Bolio, Lindsey O'Brien and her husband Thomas O'Brien, Matthew Panella, Jeffrey Panella, and great grandfather to Peyton and Teaghan O'Brien. Edward was a US navy veteran of World War II. He was the owner of Panella's Market located in Needham, MA which he took over from after returning from his service with the US Navy from his father Pasqaule who originally opened the store in 1922. Ed became well known for his "famous Italian subs" which regularly had customers lining out the door. He enjoyed watching the red sox, patriots and swimming in his pool during the summer months. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather who always had those around him enjoying his witty sense of humor. He will be truly missed by his family, friends and loved ones. Private services will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the ALS Foundation in honor of his son in law the late Kevin Bolio.
