Joseph "Joe" Francis Russell, Jr., passed away on Friday, November 25th, surrounded by his family. He was the beloved husband of Frances M. (McGee) Russell and the father of Peter Russell of South Boston, Patrice Russell of Portsmouth, NH, Mark Russell of Park City, UT, and Stephen Russell of New York City. He attended Needham High School and went on to Boston College, where he excelled both on the baseball field and in the classroom. Even though he had the opportunity to play baseball professionally, he decided to pursue higher education. He taught at B.C. High and ultimately, he became a Professor of Mathematics at UMASS Boston for more than 30 years. He could often be found volunteering his time tutoring local students. He was also a founder of RDP, Inc. a software development and research analysis firm. He was also a veteran, enlisted in the Army reserves. Visiting hours will be held in the Eaton Funeral Home, 1351 Highland Ave, Needham, on Friday, December 2nd from 4-8 PM. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in St. Joseph Church, 1362 Highland Ave, Needham, on Saturday December 3rd at 10 AM. Interment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery.
