Sylvia A. (Brown) Cotton, a longtime Dedham resident, died at Briarwood in Needham on Mar 31, 2015. She was 85.
Sylvia was raised in West Roxbury and had lived in Dedham for 58 years. She was an active member of St. John's Methodist Church in Dedham, where she had helped to establish their preschool program and volunteered in the Clothing Corner, a used clothing exchange. She was also a very talented seamstress, quilter, knitter, and most every important event was marked by one of her needlepoints.
She was the beloved wife of the late Joseph R. Cotton, the loving mother of Sally A. Spiegel and her husband Charles of Westwood and Cynthia Cotton of Dedham, grandmother of Jason Spiegel and his fiancé Jillian Caufield, Jodi Spiegel and her fiancé Patrick Joyce, Lindsey Hennessee and her husband Robert Hennessee, Kerry Monahan and Kevin Monahan and also survived by 3 great grandchildren, two sisters, and many nieces and nephews. She was the youngest child of the late James and Jeanie (Ramsay) Brown and sister of Mary McCabe of Natick, Helen Kentley of Westboro and the late Jeanie Gaudet, Esther Wieher, Anna Brown and James Brown.
A memorial service will be held on Friday Apr 10 at 11 AM in the Carter Memorial United Methodist Church 800 Highland Ave, Needham. Relatives and friends are kindly invited.
